Howdy!
A very unusual situation occurred during the 5th game of the 26th Kisei. Unusual for a professional, that is.
The game record can be found at: http://gobase.org/games/japan/titles/kisei/26/index.html or, at http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/kisei-e/index.htm . The first link is probably the easiest for online viewing.
Notice white move 298, which fills in a dame point (neutral point), puts a group of 6 black stones in atari. What is unusual is that black continues with filling in another dame point seemingly oblivious to the 6 black stones in atari. With white 300, white captures the 6 black stones. Black resigns.
Without this lapse, black would have won by 4.5 points.
Lapses like this made by top professionals provide some measure of comfort to us mere amateurs. In a game I played whilst this very same kisei game was going on, I made a similar play. I had a won game and due to a lapse, I lost 3 stones (and an eye) resulting in a huge group of mine dying. I promptly resigned. DOH!!
Enjoy!
