The only real contraband problem at work is chewing tobacco. Work release inmates smuggle it in. We call it "keyster chew" if you catch my drift, yuck. Anyway, we can't get too invasive when we search, despite what the movies lead you to believe, not without a lot of hassle. There is a simple solution. Stick the inmate in a holding cell, with the water off, monitor him till he passes a stool and/or any thing else he has "stashed".

Here's what happened Friday. On a tip, we brought an older inmate in for observation, right after he returned from work. He "didn't have to go", so we held him, all night. He went to work from the holding cell the next day. First thing at the work site was hit the Job Johny. But he was really backed up. The strain sent a pain up his left arm to his chest. It was so bad, they rushed him to the hospital. He thought it was a heart attack.
