I am sick of the factory made Ninja Tabis that are around now. Does anyone know where i can find a company that makes Custom/extremely high quality Tabis?

In the next few months we will be going into production for durrable indoor tabi. Made out of the same material as dogis with suade bottems. www.taijutsu.com/southbay.htm

How durable do you want them? Most tabi worn in Japan today are worn by either farmers or construction workers, and both groups demand pretty durable tabi. Aside from them, I don't think I've ever seen anyone wear tabi casually.

Togakure, I understand what you're saying perfectly. I am still kind of in a similiar situation. Most of the tabi that I used to come across are the rather formal kind where there are cloth hooks in the back to hold the sock on (usually only in black or white) and as you can guess are pretty useless for any kind of use other than walking short distances. A while ago I came across a shop that had cotton elastic tabi in a variety of colors and lengths. Needless to say I picked up a few pair from them, but still not exactly what I'm looking for. They are a thin cotton, which is better in some ways that the formal type, but personally I'm looking for a thicker cotton than what they were using. You might want to give them a try and see for yourself though. Good luck!

Nah, the tabis i have have a 1/8th inch rubber sole on them. Nice, but still not what i am looking for. They are rather durable, and are made by Wacoku. The kind i am talking about usually have the black rubber soles on them.

Ah you're talking about the shoes rather than the socks I take it? I'm pretty sure there's another word for those, but it's escaping me at the moment. I'm not so sure about places to get them online, but they're pretty easy to come by if you're ever in Japan. They have them in a lot of place, especially in places like hardware stores, since a good deal of carpenters wear them in Japan for work along with some neat looking pants. That's probably a mute point though. Hmm.

That brings me to a new question: Do we have any people from Japan in here? If so can you tell me how i can get my hands on these Tabi boots? I'd really like to know, because i am somewhat hard on my tabis and i need some that can withstand a good deal of wear.

Jeff Willson of Barrie, ON, Canada makes great custom leather or cotton tabi (OR ANY OTHER KIND OF MATERIAL YOU WANT). Go to Bujinkan Canada (http://www.bujinkancanada.com) for more information. At one time NIKE used to make some GREAT outdoor tabi out of spandex, leather, and rubber....but they've discontinued them, too limiting a market I guess. Luckilly I snagged 2 pair in black before they were gone. Give Jeff a try though, he'll do a great job for ya!

Check out this link http://www.nbstore.com/tabi.htm

I generally order several pairs and seem to be able to make them last about a year of indoor wear. I've not come across anything that looks like it would work better and still be tabi.

If you're buying tabi, you may need this Shoesize Converter (http://www.wh.cz/shoesize.htm).

I found some extremely sweet looking Jikatabi. The picture of these Tabis was taken by an american tourist. I saw them and immediately though "EXACTLY!!!!" These are exactly what i have been wanting, but i just can't find any like them.http://www.sd01.k12.id.us/schools/north/Japan/100/img025.jpg

Did you explore the Tozando site? It has the tabi that are in the photo you like. Look carefully, the radial stitches are there.

I have been using a pair of Ninjutsu.com's outdoor tabi for two years now, and they're still in good shape.
