I have been trying to locate a place that may make one of these types of swords. It is a wakizashi size blade, with a longer then normal handle that rests in a katana size saya. I could probably get an exact size of each of these things when I found a place that could make one.

I would want a blade that did not have a sharp edge, but still a sturdy weapon as I am wanting to use it for kata type practice. I also would like to try to avoid having to buy two swords then fitting the pieces together myself to make one. Although that is one of the options I have explored. I appreciate your inputs as I continue my search.

You might want to try Bugei Trading Company (http://www.bugei.com/) and talk to them.
If you can't afford those you might want to look into Paul Chen blades and just make your own tsuka for it the size you want.
