There are thousands of images there dated 1860-1900, and a thousand of them are available on CD-ROM. The only problem is the price, which is about 2000 Dutch Florins.

Still, if you're in or near Holland, this implies that you might be able to use Leiden University to do some significant research into 16th-19th century Japanese history.
