Earl Leiderman

Does anyone know where Earl Leiderman learned JuJitsu. He was a wrestler from the teens through the 1930's. He published a book about wrestling and Jiu Jitsu. Specifically any information about the Jiu-Jitsu would be of help.

I can give you a start. Check out http://ejmas.com and/or write the editor, Joseph Svinth at jsvinth@ejmas.com. There is a new Encyclopaedia out and the section on the history of pro-rasslingis written by Joe. Also, EJMAS (Electronic Journals of Martial Arts and Sciences, has a yahoo message group with several specialists in early wrestling including those whose background is early judo or jujutsu (Wait: I have a name for the Encyclopaedia...)

This is new book, only copywrited in 2001 by editor Thomas Green, who also wrote a great piece which used to be on the web site (and still may be, I haven't checked in a while) on North African Martial Arts.

The book is meant to be a library edition and is a mite expensive, though you can buy an E-copy on http://www.abc-clio.com which is even more expensive, plus a discount for both (be prepared to pay upwards of two-hundred dollars US or talk to your local library, main branch, if there is one, and ask that they order it. They should, there is a lot of interest in these areas as the book is called "Martial Arts of the World: An Encyclopedia." It is by no means a book stuck in Japan.

For hints on early wrestlers also check on the EJMAS site through the various journals, and also Kronos, a listing of MA snippets since the dawn of your god. Really! Many jujutsu men became pro-wrestlers, and the name you post sounds familiar to me (I might even have something, but it would take me a while to find it). Again, check the EJMAS yahoo chat site you can access from the EJMAS site.
