Does anyone have information on a sensei Takawa from Japan, perhaps around the turn of the century?

Dont have alot of info. Takawa was a Jiu-Jitsu and/or a Judo sensei in Nagasaki in the 1890's and early 1900's. I am trying to find out what system he taught, perhaps his first name, etc. Didn't know if anyhow had that kind of info.

Actually, I tried to find something on him when you first posted. There are tons of Tagawa but no "Takawa." I couldn't find anything that far back but there are plenty of people name Tagawa you could ask.

That's the first step, then microfiche of the Japan Times, and perhaps some phone calls to Nagasaki and/or the Kodokan in Tokyo. If he was Kodokan they would definitely have him, and probably his jujutsu style if he were both. A given name would help a lot.

It's a start, anyway. Sorry not to be of more help.

For Nagasaki in that period, you might try http://www.uwosh.edu/home_pages/faculty_staff/earns/ .
