Anyone familiar with any modern day exponents of kumiuchi? History?

Dave, with this question you mean if someone knows about any exponents today that practice a koryu that include kumiuchi?

Yes. I guess I should have been more specific. My understanding of kumiuchi is that it is an old grappling ryu.

Kumiuchi is not an old grappling ryu...Rather it is techniques for fighting in armour that is included as a part in different ryu.
Some examples of ryu that include kumiuchi is:
- Takeuchi-ryu
- Kito-ryu (the jin no maki part of Kito-ryu is included in judo as koshiki no kata)
- Asayama Ichiden-ryu
- Sosuishitsu-ryu
- Yagyu Shingan-ryu
There is of course others aswell but these are some...
