I was taking Kihon Karate...now, apparently our head honcho is out of detroit, and i can't remember his name.(Bad memory)

Basically it was a mix of kickboxing and grappling. I enjoyed it very much. But then my sensei had a mid life crisis and stopped teaching.

Just wondering if you guys have heard of this splinter of Karate?

Tanks.

Phil:

I know there is a Dojo ran by Norm Rivard, Sensei
in Windsor ONT which teaches Kihon Karate.

Not sure if it is the same group you are study.
Rivard was pretty succesful on the Knockdown tournament
in the early 1990s and fought in he Sabaki Challenge a
few times as well.

He iused to have a website, but i have not seen it for
a couple years, and do not think there is one any more.

Not sure excactly where the style sprung up from.
Although he was fighting in Knockdown events, I
do not think he came from a Kyokushin Background.

not sure if any of this helps . . . .

Best regards,

Paul

Norm Rivard's had an extensive judo background before starting karate.

During the early 80's trained in Isshinryu with Albert Mady, later with Dan Charlebois.

You can see some of his fights on the Sabaki Challenenge tapes of late 1980's and early '90's. On the Shidokan tapes too where he won the chamionship.
