[FONT=arial] Greetings,

I am researching Abi Allen, who recently did a seminar
in Calgary. I couldn't afford to attend as I had just
attended a Kevin Millis (Wow!) seminar the weekend prior.
If anyone can comment on her bio or background, any
writing she has done, I'll be in their debt.

Most of my attempts to come up with any info on Abi end
in broken links or just a name mention. I did, however,
find one action pic of her with two attackers. I am
interested as she may have useful insights for a female
of 5'2" (I'm told she is approx. my size).

Regarding size, btw, I definitely like to train with the
"beefier" guys in my class as well as everybody else (ladies
and kids), because it shows up any errors or inconsistencies
in my technique. We have one guy who is a former bouncer
(doorman). Training with him keeps me from trying to "out-muscle"
the opponent, and helps me to keep in mind the beauty of a
well-executed technique.

With a good class.... come many bruises...

Cheers:rolleyes:

I trained with her twice at Hombu, & just had to say that she's great. I can't say enough about her. Her movement was light & efficient, yet very powerful. When she does a technique, you sure feel it. & her insights on the kihon happo & circular movement had me spinning.

Master Abi Allen came to me here in Dallas in 1987 to train at my Bujinkan Severe Dojo.
She soon after became a student of my dojo methods.
I moved to New Mexico in 1988 to train her and a few good friends.
One of them, Alan Lundin, was the over all best I've seen in the Bujinkan methods. The other, Brian Komen, was also a wonderful and very talented student. Both of these guys helped her a great deal for years with her understanding of the Bujinkan methods. Both should be given great credit for helping her.
During my 7 month stay in New Mexico I trained her on the skills of the Kukishinden ryuha Taijutsu, Hanbojutsu, Sojutsu and Rokushakubojutsu, Gyokko ryu Taijutsu, Koto ryu Taijutsu, and Shinden Fudo ryu Taijutsu. We also worked on battojutsu and shurikenjutsu a great deal.
We were both under Master Bill Atkins supervision.
Right before the 1989 Taikai I was given the task of coming up with a dojo name under Master Bill Atkins. I came up with Tenchijin Dojo. Which Master Bill Atkins uses today.
I left New Mexico promoting Master Abi Allen to sandan in the Bujinkan dojo methods.
I hope this helps with a short time span of her training with me.
Her skills at the time I was in New Mexico are on many video tapes I have.
She also is on my first Rokushakubojutsu tape.
I believe her skills are really wonderful when ryuha gata id concerned. I also know she has karate training and is a black belt.
peace,

I have been training under Abi here in New Mexico for eight years. She is an amazing person and I cannot imagine a better teacher. Her understanding of movement is awesome and her analysis of what one is doing right or wrong (and how to correct what is wrong) is totally amazing. She teaches three classes a week--sometimes more if there are guests around. If you are ever in the Albuquerque/Santa Fe area let us know and we'd be glad to have you train with us.

She does not currently have any books out, but she has been working on one off-and-on about self-training ideas. I'm not sure of the current status since she has had major computer troubles for a while now.

She makes it up to Calgary usually twice a year to teach so keep in touch with her folks up there for future seminars. She also gives seminars here and in other locations. Watch for announcements here and at Kutaki no Mura.

Currently she is offline, but if you have anything specific you want to know from/about her you can Private Message or Email me. I'll answer what I can and pass along anything to her that needs passing along.

Best regards,
Tami Chang

Thank you Jim, Ralph, and Tami for the posts.

Tami, I appreciate the opportunity to get in touch with
Abi through you. Will PM you later.

I'm definitely not going to miss her next seminar in
Calgary! She sounds awesome from what everyone has written
and there is obviously much to learn from her.

I'm pumped!! Went to class Dec. 2nd and received a rank
that I hadn't been expecting. There's something sweet about
receiving it on Soke's birthday to be sure!

Regards,

:)

Thanks to all who have responded to this thread. Your
comments about the talented Ms. Abi Allen have contributed
to my kicking my own butt around the block for missing one
of her seminars. Doh!!

I'll be SURE to catch the next one. Perhaps I wasn't yet
"ready" to receive her instruction. I plan to train diligently
and next spring (or whenever Abi is back here) I hope to be a
worthy student.

....Thanks, Jason, for the congrats. :toast:
