I hope my English is intelligible.

In thread <a href="http://www.e-budo.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=15297">"speed training VS. weight lifting"</a> Tyrone Turner posted a link to <a href="http://www.myodynamics.com/articles/ma_articles.html">Charles Staley's</a> articles about training and exercise for martial artists. I did read most of them and they were interesting and useful. However, I have a doubt.

Japanese martial arts are a kind of cultural practice for me, as well as a means of keeping a computer geek healthy. I was impressed with my old Wadoryu Karate sensei; he was healthy and strong, without joints pain. I don't want to do exercises that do long term damage to my body.

Staley's articles seems to emphasize explosive muscles and high performance for combat sports. I was wondering if they will keep my body healthy even after decades of training.
