I had to delurk to ask this question :)
I just moved to Rochester, NY and I can't find any Judo. Nothing in the Yellow Pages, listed on Yahoo, or at the YMCA. I know Judo must exist around here. Please help.

Thanks in advance.

Well, I tried Google, Yahoo, and AltaVista, not to mention AOL search, and your correct, I could not find any directly in Rochester NY, but you may want to try the following link to the Judo Web. There has to be one near Rochester. I haven't been to New York since 1972, but some of the dojo listed areclose by:

http://www.judoweb.com/JudoClubsUSA/JudoNY.html#Judo%20Clubs%20in%20New%20York . There are many listed, and if I remember Oswego is not too far. Have you tried the colleges and universities up state? Otherwise, :saw:

BTW:Kevin, Welcome to E-budo:wave: There is one little annoying policy here, and that is you have to sign your posts with your full name. It is easy to do by configuring your signature box for it.

Regards,

Mark

I checked http://www.judoinfo.com, and they had 25 dojos listed for New York, I have no idea if any of them are close. But they could be useful contacts...

Of course if your full name is your user name, that is just fine. If it is in your profile, that is fine, as well.

What!! You knew who I was!!

and I wanted to be anonymous...

Actually, I get a big kick out of some of the crowd on RMA, who seem so intent to hide who they are (And a few other newsgroups I frequent). And I guess I'm just not paranoid enough for that...

I'm from the upstate New York area and am a little familiar with the Judo scene. An earlier post listed Dr. Ashida's
http://www.acs.brockport.edu/~judo/
He is extremely highly regarded, a former Olympic judo coach and generally thought of as top-notch in that area of the country. Brockport is fairly close to Rochester so I recommend you check him out.

If you find yourself in the Buffalo, NY area look up the Kin-Tora Judo Club -- a great bunch of judokas.
