Here's another trailer.

The JET program alumni association was asking Asian-American JET alumni in Southern California to be extras for the film(only those who could ride hourses). Guess I could only be a red-headed barbarian. I heard that one of the technical advisors is a Japanese scholar at Harvard.

Anything that promotes interest in Japanese history is ok in my book.

I haven't heard a whole lot about this flick.
1) any other big name stars in it?
2) who coordinated the fighting/stunts?
it looks like a cool story.

From what I've heard, "The Last Samurai" is based on a true story. Apparently some English guy affiliated with the British arms industry went over to help the Emperor Meiji put down the samurai rebellions by teaching the imperial army modern methods of warfare. Unfortuately, however, I have found nothing in my Japanese history books or on the internet about this. Anybody know anything more?

I saw the trailer in the theater, and I have to say, from what little I saw the costumes and re-creation of late 19th century Japan seemed really good.
