During my recent trip to Japan I visited a museum at the Kikkoman factory in Noda. This museum is an old mansion that was used by the owners for over two hundred years. The mansion had what was described to me as a family medicinal garden. I was unable to get the names of the plants, but I did get some photos. If anyone can name the plants and give any insight into its use, I would appreciate it.

I think this first one is a form of mint...

This one is supposed to be toxic. I think the poison is in the roots, and was used on shuriken and arrows at one time...

Not sure about 1 or 4, but 2 says shouga (ginger), 3 says dokutami (Houttuynia Cordata), and 5 says nira (shallots). Can't get enough of that washoku John?
