I used to watch Sumo, when they had it on channel4 here in the UK.

Its not been on much over the last year....

Is Konishki (sp?) the Hawaii "big fella" still competing?

Are there any other non-japanese competing?

Hello Steve,

Konishiki left sumo quite a few years ago and has become a 'terebi tarento'.

The two present yokozuna are Musashimaru and Asashoryu. Musashimaru hails from the same part of the world as Takamiyama, Konishiki and Akebono (Polynesia), and Asashoryu is Mongolian. Both have retired from the present tournament due to injuries.

Asashoryu has been a notably bad loser and his apparent lack of 'hinkaku' (the special quality called dignity, which yokozuna have to possess in abundance in order to achieve this rank) is causing panic among the sumo establishment.

Though it has gone down in quality with a change of editorship, the bi-monthly Sumo World magazine is a good source of information and opinion.

Best regards,

PAG

Steve, if you've got Sky then they show all the Sumo on a Channel called Euro Sport.

Cheers
