You might try contacting Professor John Nelson at the University of Texas at Austin:

Here's some info on him from the following website: http://pnc-ecai.oiu.ac.jp/jhti/shinto/members.html

Professor John Nelson (University of Texas at Austin) has done extensive ethnographic fieldwork at Shinto shrines in Japan. He is the author of the 1996 book A Year in the Life of a Shinto Shrine (Univ. of Washington Press), producer of a documentary film titled "Japan's Rituals of Remembrance: 50 Years after the Pacific War," and has a forthcoming book from the University of Hawai'i Press on Kyoto's Kamowake Ikazuchi Jinja.

Perhaps he would have a good sense of what in going on in Austin in regards to Shinto.

Good luck!
John

I only know one person in the USA designated as a Shinto "Priest", and I believe that they are Kokka Shinto. Also, they are in Washington.

Maybe I can put you in contact? I dont know where I put his card- but I can try to reach him.

Yawp that's him. I have this web-page off his card and flyer ....

Tsubaki Kannagara Jinjya (http://kannagara.org/home.htm)

The shrine from which the Washington shrine is affiliated with is in my prefecture. I do believe my soon to be father-in-law did some work on the Japanese one at one time or another. It claims to be established in 3B.C.E. , however, it has been remodeled a few times ;).
As far as I know, this is Kokka shinto.
