I'm finally going to be able to go to Japan...

Was hoping to get some hints/tips of vegetarian places to go... Fast-food, noodle-houses and grocery stores...

This is where I'm staying:

...but hopefully I'll be able to do some touring and site seeing as well!!! :D

Experiences, good or bad would be appreciated...

Thanks!

I have yet to see any vegetarian shops.

Lots of places have photgraphs of the meals on the menu so it will make it easier for you. However lots of stuff has a minimal amount of seafood or meat in it. You will have to ask that they leave it out when they prepare your food. The word you need to use is saishokushugisha (person who eats vegetable meals) Lots of rice, veg and tofu so you should be able to find what you want.

You can also say "vegetarian" (watashi wa vegetarian-desu) and most people will know what you mean. I'll add that you need to watch how soups and dressings are made for you. The meal might not contain meata, but stocks and flavorings can. I know of many people who have asked for a vegetarian meal only to get a soup based on fish stock.

You can come to Japan and survive as a vegetarian, it just might take a little more work. Good luck and have fun!
