I want to buy a hakama in Scotish tartan plaid. Anyone know where I can get one?

Probably have to get it made, dude.

I've threatened to have one in Gordon regimental tartan for years ...

Could you suggest a place for the sewing?

Which tartan exactly? It would be extremely expensive...not to mention odd.

Take a look at some of these sites for cloth:

www.scottishlion.com

www.e-kilt.com

www.scotyard.com

www.whitethistle.net

Probably will need to get a basic Breacan-feile, or great kilt. Which is essentially 4-8 yards of material, then contact someone like : www.bujindesign.com , who make their own hakama, and present them with the material/ideas....

good luck!

One of the Clan MacPherson tartans, of course. I lean toward "ancient," but that's subject to change.

I'm beginning to think the cost will be prohibitive. How sad.

Odd? Wearing two pairs of pants in any color is odd to me. Dressing like a someone from another race from 150 years ago is odd to me. But we do it anyway. I don't know why we do it, but we do it. I have no Japanese blood in me, but I have Scotish blood in me, and people make hats, scarves, afghans, ties, socks, pillows, blankets, posters, bookmarks, cupholders, kilts, skirts, and other things in tartan, so I say, "Why not hakama pants for aikido class?"

Buy the hakama pattern from Round-Earth Publishing, buy 5 yards of cloth and take it to a dressmaker. Hakama aren't especially hard to make, although any custom garment won't be cheap.

Post pictures when it's complete...I like the idea myself.

The plaid shown on my profile is Macpherson hunting (Ancient) Here are the "Official" tartans of the clan...(The music makes my skin crawl though...)

I can imagine...but academic inquiries aren't usually appreciated.

The best stategy for ladies is to ask the kiltie if he'd like to buy you a drink....:D

You might try
Daimyo Outfitters (http://home.att.net/~daimyo.outfitters/welcome.html)
They seem to be able to do about anything and are quite reasonable. A few guys in our group have purchased from them and are quite happy.
