Ok these photos are out of FM 3-25.150 the hand to hand combat manual. Out of context they look a little funny.

"I dont understand this whole camoflauge thing, I mean you go into the jungle I can't see you....IF you are going to fight, - CLASH!"

WHAT MOVIE?

Ok, enough drift....when I was doing submission fighting in Colorado, we had a couple of Rangers come to "train" with us. They said that they were being taught (I think) standard 36 moves of Brazillian Ju jutsu...they were very strong, fit individuals, but had trouble with the finesse part...they couldnt flow from one move to the other, without breaking rhythm...I guess the Army doesn't teach flow....on the sport side of things we ended up winning, if it was real life, I have no doubt that they would have simply stood up (From receiving juji gatame) and smashed our heads up and down untill....well you get the idea.
Are the photos from the most current handbook? I was surprised, that soldiers were being taught to "tie-up" with an opponent...I would expect that they would want to stay on their feet...But then again Im a civillian...

They're from an army web site - so I believe they are current.

I think it's weird to tell soldiers to tie up as well.

We get taught basic Brazillian Ju jutsu, some boxing, and some knife fighting, as well as rifle bayonette techniques. I went through Army Infantry basic training in 2001 so I don't know if it has changed within 4 years.

Yep, it's current. And I've been arguing against getting tied up since they began considering BJJ for training. And I was still in the Marines at the time.
My other concern, being in tune with originating post, is that sans text any BJJ manual can pass for gay porn.
