Hi everybody!

Ok, I am looking for an answer to a question posted on another forum I belong to and here is the question posted. The person who posted, heard about a samurai who had looked up to and admired George Washington and wants to know who that samurai was. The poster couldn't find any info anywhere though.

I already tried to find the answer, but I couldn't find it. Does anyone here know about this, or if it is true? Domo arigato gozaimasu for helping!

It must have been one well read or well travelled samurai though. There was only ten years between the time that Admiral Perry forced a treaty opening Japan to the west, and the Meiji restoration which abolished the samurai class. That's not a whole lot of time to be able to study and understand U.S. history.

Sorry I couldn't be of any help!

Cheers,

That's what I was thinking: Sakamoto Ryoma or maybe Katsu Kaishu.

I would guess Kaishu as well, as he travelled to America and was said to be one of the foremost authorities on America of his time.

As far as I know he was a big fan of the American political system and it's military system as I understand it.
