:D Hi,

Does anyone know where I would be able to purchase a No-Dachi, either through mail order, or COD?

I have had a hard time finding anything concerning them. The closest is through http://www.Edgeco.com, and is quite hefty at 55" (40" blade.) Does any one know of another source?

Thank you,

You might try some of the iaito links that I posted under "Stainless Steel" in Sword Arts. That said, I referred your question to Kim Taylor and he said he's not aware of anyone who sells commercial iaito that big. Custom makers can and will make them, but then you are looking at CDN $100 an inch for North American makers and at least CDN $300 an inch for a Japanese maker. Ouch.

If the weapon is to be used solely for training, a possibility is to substitute a wooden bokuto. Using laminates, said bokuto can possess very similar balance and heft as a real sword, it just won't cut. The type of wood used seriously affects the price, but I would guess that you could get one made for a couple hundred dollars. Talk to Kim if you're interested.

My instructor had an iaito from Tozando. He is a fairly large man and the thing was nearly a no-dachi in my hands. (I am 5'8") I don't remember the exact measurement.

Also, if there is one to be found, Peter Boylan at Mugendo Budogu could probably find it for you.

Grab your wallet, too, as if I'm reading the Tozando website correctly their steel blade, polished, with fittings, starts at about Y250,000, which translates into CDN $3,500 or US $2,300. Personally, for that kind of money I'd buy North American custom.

Check out East Coast Martial Arts Supplies (www.ecmas.com) and go to their japanese sword inventory. They have a 47" nodachi there with a 14" tsuka for $9,000.

Good luck to ya.
