I just picked up "The techniques of Judo" by Shinzo Takagaki and Harold E. Sharp. It seems really good. It's basic, but there are some very interesting things in the book. For example, there's a cartwheel guard pass. This was really surprising to me, as the only time I've seen such a move is from Sakuraba against Renzo Gracie. I assumed it was something new. But, this book was published in 1957. Score one for the "old boys". Anyhow, I recommend this book. I'm really enjoying it so far.

Harold (Hal) Sharp is an intersting person and in his day was one bad a** Judoka. He is still active at Judo events in So. Cal.

Here is a link to a bio published some years ago in Black Belt Mag. http://www.gardenajudo.com/

One sensei told me that Hal Sharp was so good, that at one point they didn't let him compete in the regular division. But after the regular competition was finished, he would face each of the first place winners of each of the Black Belt divisions, and beat them all.
