I was wondering if anyone knew about `Bizen Osafune` The Fam. I am lving with in Japan tried to explain the blades that are made there, being that I live about an hours drive from the forge, but things became quickly confused due to my lack of skill with the Japanese tounge and theres with the English. Thanks for any help you may offer.

Jason:
Try a web page from the Japanese Sword Society. The US branch has study manuals in English on most of the famous sword Prefectures, families ect. I'm a proud owner of an Osafune Tachi. Eventually it will be polished and in a shirasaya. I'm always tempted to cut with her just once, but being 600 years old, I guess I'll just leave her rest.

PS Great sword makers, did not know they still had a forge working!

Dont worry about it, seems to be always early here... Happen to have a link? Yeh they still have a working forge, my Fam told me I`d be looking at about 4k (US) for a wakazashi and up to 20k for a Katana ... But I found out I can go watch them make and test their blades.... Now if only I could understand Japanese alittle better...

Joshua,

Here are two links that may help, although I couldn't find anything on Osafune. I recommend you contact Rich Stein who posts frequently on http://www.swordforum.com.

Hey Joshua, where in Japan are you? Swords are way less expensive than that. Bob Elder

Tamano, Okyama. Honshu

All I know is what they told me... still hard to figure out exactly what is going on. That is why I am trying to ask my questions here on E-budo, for the English

Jason,

Bob's right -- you can get them fully mounted for around $6k (some less, some more). Ask Bob -- he's had some *great* prices for Japanese made shinken (budo-yo).

Guy
