I like all the kata for diffrent reasons.

geki sai dai itchi and geki sai dai ni- teaches you the basics and intruduces you to ashi barie

sanchin-is the fundamental kata (most important kata in goju ryu in my opinion)

saifa-like the introduction to crane stance and the dropping movements

siyunchin- I like siyunchin a lot because it challenges me a lot the low stances and slow and fast movements.

sanchin ni-see sanchin itchi

shisochin- like the emphasis on konsetsu waza bunkai

sanseru-I love the ending morote koken uke in shiko dachi very beutiful kata done right.

sepai-this is one of my favorites because of all the angles and tsunami waza

kurunfa-I like the emphasis on tai sabaki and konsetsu waza bunkai not to mention the ura nage bunkai another kata I havent learned one day maybe

seisan- lots of konsetsu geri gotta love them konsetsu geri

suparempie-dont know it but the times I have seen it the mai tobi geri grabbed my attention and the cross over punches intrugied me

tensho-I like how it is derived from hakutsuru (white crane)

sorry to take up a so much time and space but goju ryu kata all have diffrent things to offer

yours in respect

I love the beautiful symmetry of Seienchin and the practicality of Seisan.

My best is Saifa and Seiunchin. I really like Sepai, though I'm not as smooth with it as the others.

Well, I also like Kururunfa. I like it because it has grappling applications. Heck, I like 'em all.

My sensei always said that you should not have a "favorite kata."

Is okay to have a few favorite katas, but not just one?

Mr. Williams

Your Sensei isprobably right. Although I practice and like all the Kata that I know, up to this point, I enjoy doing Seiyunchin,Saifua, and Shisouchin. Kururunfua does give me a bit of a problem though I still like doing it. At this point, though it is a few years away I think, I am concentrating on my next test which calls for Sanchin,Tenshou and Seipai.
