Mr. Hill,

I'm sure you're not going to get much of a response in this particular part of the forum, since it is devoted to classical Japanese systems only. On top of that, this is a site devoted to Japanese martial arts.

That being said, you might try asking this question in the Member's Lounge, as I seem to recall there are a few members here who have a background in Filipino martial arts. An online search might be a good bet as well, although you might try spelling it "arnis". Try escrima and kali as well.

Good luck!

Neil, so you posted the Dog Brothers link, eh? If our young friend checks it out, he may swear off arnis forever! :p

Well, when it comes to hitting people with sticks, they are in a league of their own!

Howdy all,

Having had the opportunity to train with the Dog Brothers as well as a few other well-known practioners of the FMA, I have to say that the experience hardly put me off. To be honest, I got hit harder practicing jodo in Tokyo than I did practicing with them (at least they wear pads!)

The one thing I will say is that the Filipino arts are a whole different ball of wax than the Japanese arts I've practiced. Hard to switch from one to the other!

Best of luck to the young man looking for info. There used to be a site that had a variety of mpegs of Filipino material, but for the life of me I can't find it.

Tom,
I was just being "cute." I share the Dog Brothers' philosophy about training.:)
