US SUMO OPEN Events are in Celebration of the 150th Anniversary of US-Japan Relations!

Join us for the 4th annual US SUMO OPEN on Tuesday, April 6 in Los Angeles, California. We are pleased to welcome the legendary yokozuna Musashimaru, winner of 12 grand sumo championships, in celebration of the 150th anniversary of US-Japan relations!

Musashimaru is one of only two Americans ever to achieve sumo's highest rank of yokozuna (grand champion). The other American yokozuna, Akebono, attended the 2003 US Sumo Open. Musashimaru, originally from Hawaii, stand 6'4" and weighs 520 pounds. Musashimaru holds the phenomenal record in professional sumo of 55 consecutive tournaments with a winning record!

As in past years, sumo athletes from all over the world will compete in weight and gender classes. International sumo teams and athletes are expected from countries including the US, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Hungary, Armenia, Poland, and more.

The event begins at 6:00 PM with entertainment, including Japanese dancers. Competition will begin after 6:30 PM.

Food and beverage booths will be on site. Japanese cuisine includes hand-rolled sushi, chanko-nabe, yakitori, and more. Enjoy delicious Japanese cuisine while watching the competition!

Directions to the hotel:
South on the 101 Hollywood Freeway - Take the 101 South , exit at Los Angeles St. Turn right at the Los Angeles St. Go two blocks to 2nd St. Hotel is on the left.
North on the 110 Harbor Freeway - Exit at 4th St. Go two blocks to Olive. Turn left and continue to 1st St. Turn right, go to Los Angeles St. and turn right. Hotel is on the left.
South on the 110 Pasadena Freeway - Take the 110 South, move in the leftmost lane, and exit at Hill St. Turn left at 1st St. Go six blocks, and turn right at Los Angeles St. Hotel is on the left side.
