I recently was involved in an interesting conversation with a high ranking Korean kendoka. She was talking about the strength of the Korean woman, traditionally left to defend the homestead during that country's long history of war. It got me thinking of Samurai women. There are many tales involving their bravery in the early and middle ages( i.e. Tomoe Gozen), yet what of the women of the Edo period. Did the long period of "peace" dull their swords and spirit as it did many of their male counterparts?

Thank you,
