View Full Version : High Ranking Okinawans in the US

When ever I hear about high ranking Okinawan masters, I find that their schools are in the United States. I wonder what makes them want to move to and train people in the US? I don't think anything is wrong is that, but Im just curious.

I don't know for sure, but my guess would be to make a better living here than they can in Okinawa teaching.

Some of them were sent to the US many decades ago to teach and spread the art. They have grown and part of their 'reward' is the promotion for sacrificing and making the move. But, given that we have one 10th and one 8th in the US and all the rest are in SE Asia, mostly on Okinawa, I suspect that you have only heard about the ones here. The others are lower profile and not likely to be discussed in English here or on the rest of the web.
