if Bujin's other products are any meter of their quality, than I'd say go for it. It's the only place I've found a fukuro shinai, but look around some. You never know what's out there until you're out there...

It is a nice shinai... a bit on the heavy side :) (heavier than my Buki co. katana at least...)

I have been using it for a while and it has been holding up well.

Hi,

The fukuro shinai's that I've seen have all been laquered/smooth leather covers. The Bujin design have suede, which tend to "stick" more when making contact, and create more air-drag when swinging, but are quite nice other than that.

The bamboo inside appears to be heat treated or something. Either way, they are pretty tough. I have not broke any of mine yet.

You can buy the famous red leather fukuro shinai as used by Yagyu Shinkage ryu here and there, but it will cost you upwards of $200!!

Bujin also has fukuro shinai kodachi and tanto too, which are nice for learning the distancing of these weapons.

Regards,
