Hi,
can anyone tell me, (or redirect me to an english page :D )
what exactly and what's the story of shintaido?

I saw these photos and I'm full of questions:

Offshoot of Egami's Shotokai (Shotokan Karate), I think. Very strenuous anaerobic training with no particular martial efficacy intended, IIFC. Discussed in Shotokan Karate A Precise History by Harry Cook.

Here:

http://www.e-budo.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6176&highlight=shintaido Ellis Amdur's post is quite interesting, and Meik Skosses' as well.

and here is one website:

http://www.shintaido.org/ and another: http://www.shintaido.com/index-e.shtml

I "sampled" it for about two weeks before jetting. The use of bo and bokken attracted me, the mystic-ness did not. I never saw them do the karate part of it. Reminds me of some of the 20th century start-up religions my grad student girlfriend studies. Benign, IMO, if a little goofy. If it's your thing, more power to you; the practitioners I met seemed to get something out of it and were quite nice. But there are more "martial" arts and certainly, to me, more interesting and traditional weapons arts. Of course, vis a vis Mr. Amdur's post and the rhetoric of the shintaido site, that is the point.

I suppose the top picture is a sort of shugyo.
