Can anyone give me some information on this style of jiu-jitsu? How is it different from other styles?

The main website http://www.members.shaw.ca/canryu/

The place I am interested in training http://members.shaw.ca/gojiujitsu/

Any information would be appreciated, thanks

It seems to be one of the standard newer styles. Combining various things from other arts. This means that it will probably not differ to much from other "neo" jiu-jitsu styles.

Don't go there expecting a traditional Japanese martial art. There will probably be the standard "Japanese" formalities, but it is a new art.

Can-ryu jiu jitsu is a development of George Sylvain's combining Kawaishi judo and jiu jitsu and Chito-ryu Karate. It has been around since the '60's. Very popular in the Ottawa area, as it is George Sylvain's base, and amongst other things he was defensive tactics instructor for the Law and Security courses for prospective police officers for many years.

Never heard anyone claim it to be traditional japanese jiu jitsu, just good "meat and potatoes" jiu jitsu. Not much on flash, except with some of the young buck instructors.
