TITLE: Shaolinquan rumen ("Introduction to Shaolin Boxing) by Kasao Kyoji. Reprinted 1990 by Yiqun shuju in Taipei.

DESCRIPTION. From the inside cover:

Shaolin boxing is an exceptionally comprehensive fighting method, to which many schools of kungfu belong. It is generally divided into the Northern-style and the Southern-style. But in addition, the Northern-style includes Huanquan and Chaquan (developed by Chinese Muslims) and such. The Southern-style includes Hongquan (Hung-gar), Cailifo (Choy-li-fut), and such. As a result, few refer to boxing methods as Shaolin boxing, but as Huaquan, Chaquan, etc. In the instructional curriculum presented by this book, we begin with the four basic stances and their drills, which will serve as the foundation for kungfu and will begin opening up your hidden physical potentials. Then, the variations and techniques in the book will guide you on to a path to attain very high-level skills.

This book shows individual solo forms as well as extensive information on applying the movements and techniques. One of the forms covered is from the art of Jiequan (intercepting boxing method), from which Bruce Lee drew the name for his own art Jeet Kune Do (Jiequandao).

The author Kasao Kyoji is a life-long student of the Chinese martial arts, having studied in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Japan. He has published many books on kungfu in Japanese and in Chinese, and is an authority on the martial arts. 255 pages. Softcover.
