I have been studying yoshinkan aikido for almost a year now. We also use bokken for some kata and i was told we use the shinkage ryu kata. is this the yagyu shinkage ryu???

Describe the kata and their names. I might be able to help.

I would tend to doubt that aikido folks practice authentic Shinkage-ryu, however... probably more like aiki-ken with a nice name slapped on it.

I doubt that anyone is teaching "Yagyu Shinkage ryu" in any authentic way. They'd have to be licensed by the ryu to do that. But it does seem that the time that certain yoshinkan instructors spent in the headmasters classes at the yoshinkan has influenced the buki waza of some of the main japanese instructors in the US (and possibly other places as well).

Thanks for the replies guys. The kata im talking about is only 8 basic swings. Ill try to get the name for you guys at some later date and ill post it here again and then you can give me a definite answer..
