Hello!
Welcome on e-budo.com1 Please dont forget to sign your postings with your full name.
There is not much koryu in germany but you are lucky because you live in Frankfurt. There is a Kashima Shin Ryu group (www.kashima-shinryu.de). When you looking for Katori Shinto Ryu there is a branch-dojo of the Sugino-dojo in Leer(Ostfriesland) and there are several associated groups. If you want a more specialised Ryu, try www.eishinryu.de for iaido. There is a Hozoin-ryu group in Hamburg (www.sojutsu.de). I heard of a Jigen-Ryu group near Wiesbaden and the is a Itto-Ryu group somewere(try google) in germany.
What exactly you a looking for?

Hi Sven,

what kind of Jigen ryu you mean? Kenjutsu or Jujutsu?
Itto ryu? Interesting!

Moin Micha!
Jigen Ryu kenjutsu! Last year i sold some fukuro shinai to the group. I have the link to there homepage somewhere, will post it later. There teacher is a karateka from Satsuma. I am not sure if this is legit koryu or just an inofficial offspring! Visiting the website i was confused about some points. First they call it Jigen-Ryu Kendo, second they do shiai in bogu! My contact told me also things i expected to see, for example harsh makiwara-pratice with bokken(do 1000 strikes against a treetrunk!).
King regards

Hi Sven,

I found the url: Jigen ryu Kendo (http://funasako.com/index.html) .
Hm, interesting.Next days I will contact them and ask a few questions about their Jigen ryu.
I think it could be very interesting to see it "in action".

Best regards,

Hi Micha!
Yes thats there website. I would call it at least suspicious! Looks like they do ZNKR kendo and add Jigen-Ryu kata as augmentation and call it Jigen Ryu kendo. In there description on the history of the ryu it looks like jigen ryu and modern kendo are linked in some way (technical or historical). As far as i know thats incorrect. How much information did yo get from this? :)
1 Ipponme
2 Nihonme
3 Sanbonme
4 Yohonme
5 Gohonme
6 Ropponme
7 Nanahonme
There Jigen-Ryu has seven basic kata! Goofy!
At the second look i dont think its legit koryu. Does not mean its bad budo!
Kind regards

Hi Sven,

I think so too.
Look´s like Kendo with Jigen ryu elements. But, they said their teacher learned jigen ryu kendo, isn't it?
Well, how about the Kyu / Dan system. Is this system integrated in Jigen ryu or do they use the "old" system?

Best regards,
