hey i am new here and i am hoping to start maybe kendo or iaido.

i heard there was a stlye called tiger katana? is this true?

if it is where would i be able to learn in. i live in australia, on the west side.

Is this a style of katana or the name of a sword style? Do you have the actual name of it? Using English translations is slightly difficult.

It is, by accounts I've heard, a fine blade. Not something you would want to buy if you're just starting kendo or iaido, though.

Broadly speaking, IKF (International Kendo Federation) kendo has no significant "styles" to speak of. Training is conducted in a similar fashion from dojo to dojo, with occasional minor stylistic differences. For example, Higure-sensei in Phoenix, AZ taught quiet, sliding footwork, while Tachikawa-sensei here in Japan emphasizes a vicious stomp when one attacks.

Iaido is a whole 'nother ballgame. We'll burn that bridge when we come to it.

Let's start with some simple questions: What's your purpose in learning martial art? Is improving fitness a consideration? What appeals to you specifically about kendo and iaido?

Is "Tiger Katana" a style (brand/model/etc.) of sword? Yes.

Is "Tiger Katana" a style (ryu/ha/etc.) of swordsmanship? Not that I'm aware of.

Can you get the Chen Tiger in the West? No, except on the internet.
Will you be able to use in a Iai dojo in WA? Very much doubt it.

Can you please tell me where you intend training in WA?

Now having said that you can order an Iaito in a Tiger theme ie. the fittings.

Being a WA, resident and Iaidoka I can promise you that you will need to get your sword recommendation - size, weight, tsuka length from your Sensei. Often the Sensei will have contact in Japan to save you some money.
