It is a variation of Ryu Kyu Kobudos,Hamahiga no tonfa.I do not recognise the performer though. It is being done a little differently than it is in the Tesshinkan. Tom Hodges

She is part of Shinzato's branch of the Shinjinbukai. They actually mention Shinzato san's name at the end of the video. I think they also do Ryukyukobudo Hozen Shinkokai. Here is his website http://www.shorin-ryu-karate.com/ .

I couldn't catch her name from the video.

Hope this helps.

I don't do this kata but it looks like a mix of Matsu Higa no tonfa and Hama Higa no tonfa....vry similar approach.

Tonfa is not a weapon I have had the pleasure of learning, so be patient with my ignorance.

Understanding that in the kata demonstrated in the video there may be a bunkai that totally explains this, I have to ask, why would you sandwich your forearms between the two tonfa in kake uke? It just seems like you are asking to get your forearm broken by doing that.

Again, I understand that most kake uke in karate are not really hard blocking maneuvers and the same is probably true for the tonfa. Can somebody briefly explain a plausible reason for this?

Thanks
