I think I remember seeing them before, are they the people who claim they do a korean art that happens to look identical to iaido? Not sure on that just looks familiar.

That video is pretty interesting!

Think thats kinda neat how they tied the chudan together for a demonstration. It's always different to see the different variations in kata. Particularly the last one they do (Makko).

Oof! The hayanuki in the park is awful, absolutely awful! See them looking down struggling to get their swords in their obi's!

The individual kata videos look fairly competent but it's a shame to top it off with a crap public display of rubbishness.

Good to see you yesterday Scott, shame we couldn't chat more.

I would be interested to see how many students comprise their iaido class or if these were hand chosen students that performed the demo. I think one should also take into account what this demo was for (I have no idea). If its a demo of a school showing off its iaido to other iaidoka then everyone will notice the little details (ie the looking down of the sageo tying, and struggling with the sword in the obi). However I think (judgine from the people in the background without hakama) that this was probably a general martial arts gathering so maybe the details wouldn't have been as noticable therfore the decision to including kyuranks in the demo who may not be as proficient. Either way I'm all for iai demos to help educate indivuals that such an art still exhists.

Wow, that can't be healthy! Doesn't really pertain to iaido but found it when looking through the pictures. They have a fairly large school if thats all their students in the park. Not to much about iaido though other than an intro page and the media.

Thing is you are NOT supposed to do for demonstrations are Hayanuki and Kaishaku.

Absolutely what we were told too. It doesn't seem to stop some people though from showing off.

Anyone in particular? :)

I wish I could do hayanuki without needing a pint of oxygen afterwards...

Scott

You read my mind and you will understand why I said nothing more.

Plink plink plink

By the way, kikentai-ichi doesn't actually mean that you have to do hayanuki with one breath.

Hyaku-sensei, demonstrating hayanuki in public is a clear indication of only a scant understanding of a style and not knowing the deeper intricacies (like not demonstrating it for example).

Plink plink plinkThis made me laugh out loud at work. Barsteward... :)

Hyaku-sensei, demonstrating hayanuki in public is a clear indication of only a scant understanding of a style and not knowing the deeper intricacies (like not demonstrating it for example). There is a distinct difference between knowing what you are doing and just copying what you were taught... anything to add? (maybe in PMs)...
