Hello.

I was wondering what the japanese Shinto Muso-ryu organisation is called, and if there is a website (preferrably translated into english) for it. I recall hearing a name for the Japanese organisation a long time ago: "Shinto Muso-ryu Hozen Kai" but I didn't find anything on google..(or wikipedia for that matter) If I'm not mistaken, Nishioka Tsuneo Sensei belongs to the this Japanese SMR-org. Does anyone have any info at all, or a maybe someone has a good link with info?

I know there are alot of good articles on Shinto Muso-ryu history and lineages on koryu.com (among others), made by authors frequently visiting these forums, but unfortunetly there is very little information about modern organisations.

Thanks in advance.

*EDIT*

Please note, I'm not looking for info on the International Jodo Federation or European Jodo Federation, but info on the Japanese SMR-scene.

So you are looking for what organizations in Japan teach Shindo Muso Ryu Jodo? I believe there are several.

Zen Nihon Kendo Renmei is associated with Seitei Jodo.

You have groups like the Shinjoukai:

Teishoukai:
http://www.iai.gr.jp/hp/teisyo/index.html

...both of which are affiliated with the Suimokai (Niina Gyokusui Toyoaki's organization for Mugai Ryu Iaihyodo).

There's the Tokyo-to Jodo Renmei (Tokyo Area Jodo Federation)
http://www.bekkoame.ne.jp/i/jodo/index.html

The Zen Nihon Jodo Renmei (All Japan Jodo Federation)
(webpage?)

and others.

Our group, the Northern Virginia Jodokai, is associated (as I understand it) with the Nihon Jodokai under Kaminoda-sensei:

See the other link to understand the diversity of organizations a little bit better--with the different Menkyo Kaidens out there, there are a lot of legitimate and equally qualified organizations, from my understanding. Some of these may be affiliated, and others not.

Hopefully others can give you more information. This is just the results of a quick search of the web this Monday morning.

Looking at Nishioka Sensei's site

(regrettably in Japanese)
http://enjoy.pial.jp/~t.nishioka/

and the english pages for his dojo
http://www.jodojo.com/

they do not have many links to Jo in Japan, neither has links to a Hozen Kai.

Information on SMR in Japan online in English is very limited, only a couple of groups seem to have anything - entering 会 "神道夢想流杖道 " site:.jp into google generates many organisations from Hokkaido to Kyushu, entering the english equivalents "shinto muso ryu jodo site:.jp" and "shindo muso ryu jodo site:.jp" give mostly pages that have links to the English language affiliates of Nishioka Sensei's Seiryukai, Kaminoda Sensei or of the Mugai Ryu (which suprised me a little - for 5 months I used to train in Jodo with the Seiryukai in the same school sports hall at the same time as one Mugai group were doing Mugai Ryu Iai at the other end, and was actually training in Iai with a different Mugai Ryu dojo and never realised the Mugai organisation was also involved in SMR. Proof both that the Japanese are very discrete and that I have almost no ability to communicate in the Japanese language).

Thank you

The above links, (earlier in the topic), are in japanese too so I'm none-the-wiser unfortunetly. I already knew that Nishioka sensei isn't a part of the International Jodo Federation the way Pascal Krieger sensei is, but rather a very well-apreciated technical advisor.

Anyways, the jojutsu on the japanese islands seem very numerous. Last month for instance I saw a certain "Hoten Ryu Jojutsu" from a japanese seminare website. A quick google search didnt' come up with anything on it except those above mentioned photos so I'm none-the-wiser about them too. So its hard for me to get a clear overall image of the Jo-situation in Japan except for a few bits here and there.

I guess it would be more practical and benefitial if I actually lived in Japan. Ah well..maybe one day :p :)
