I am seeking a kenjutsu dojo in ottawa, but my searches have been fruitless up to now. If anyone knows about a Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto ryu or a HyoHo Niten Ichi Ryu near Ottawa/Hull, please let me know.

Same Vincent who was with Manitoba Kendo Club last year? I know there's kendo and iaido in Ottawa.

What is iaido exacly? Is it the same as batto jutsu?

Unfortuately, I am not free the when this teacher gives his classes. Does anyone know about another one?

And as an answer, yes, it is the same vincent who was with the Manitoba Kendo Club last year, I am glad you remember me.

Here's a description (http://www.kendo-sask.com/swordfaq.htm#_Toc422549459) of iaido.

Vincent, I think you'll find that if you start looking for koryu, you're going to find that it's a rare thing. You'll probably need to adjust your schedule.

I agree with Neal, if you're serious, adjust your schedule.
I don't know of anyone else in Ottawa.
Pop down, watch them practice and talk to them. They're a good group of people.

Check with the Takahashi dojo in the west end(parkdale/wellington area). the website doesn't seem to be working past the home page. Although primarily a judo dojo, they do list Kendo as being taught there. Based on their Judo qualifications(multiple Olympic champions, head instructor 8th Dan Kodokan), it would be worth checking out.

Dave Green from Tateyama here. There's a kendo dojo at Takahashi's, but no iaido or kenjutsu that I know of.

A couple of our members have expressed interest in doing Hyoho Niten Ichi Ryu, and have been down to some of Kim Taylor's seminars, but we really don't have anyone knowlegable enough to teach, and no good class times for a new class anyways.

I've seen some things for a "kenjutsu" class at Algonquin College, but I don't think they're a traditional school, and haven't seen what they do in any case.

For Iaido, we've recently started a new beginner's class on Sunday afternoons, from 2:30-4:00, which would be the best time to come and visit us, if you can fit that into your schedule.

For Katori Shinto Ryu, as far as I can tell, in Ontario I think there might be at least three dojo's located in the south southeastern Ontario region. Not very close to Ottawa. Here's one website: http://tokumeikan.com/home.htm

There is also Katori Shinto Ryu in Quebec, see this site:

http://www.aikibudo.com/

That's all I can find.

As a new update on kenjutsu in Ottawa, I've just heard that there's a fellow who may be starting a kenjutsu/iaijutsu club at the Takahashi dojo.

I don't have many details, but he's advertising an introductory seminar for Sunday May 14th, from 1-4pm. Unfortunately, that's right when I have my own class, so I can't attend, but one of the other club members is planning on attending, and so we might be able to report more details afterwards.
