I just finished reading Deshi by John Donohue. I thought it was a pretty good read, but the ending was kind of cheesy. Overall I have enjoyed both of Donohue's recent fictional works. Burke is no Remo Williams (but who is?), but the training descriptions and the interactions between the protagonist, his family and his sensei are well done.

Thoughts?

I enjoyed both 'Sensei' and 'Deshi', although I found the climax of second book a trifle over the top. Good reads, tho'...it's nice to see fiction involving the martial arts written by somebody who really knows what he's talking about.

I, too, enjoyed Sensei, and I'm reading Deshi right now (I have not yet finished it). Donohue's books are extremely entertaining and his descriptions of his training and the martial arts in general are very vivid.
