I have been reviewing Chanbara websites recently, trying to get a handle on what this is all about. I'm wondering if anyone out their in web-land, who has done chanbara, or has seen it or read through a their information, might wish to share their opinion on it.

Many of the websites talk about Chanbara as simply a recreational sport for all ages with out the weight, cost and pain associated with kendo etc. Other say that it is in fact more realistic then kendo, and go on to describe its self defence benifits, and its connection to real duelling.

Either way if you want to share your opinions please do. As for my opinion, well...if you can't knock'em on the ground it ain't proper :smash:, if it don't hurt it ain't proper:cry:...but air filled rubber swords could be kinda kinky....ahhhmmm....:o

Some websites to check out:

On a technical note, the international website has some mpeg's showing there basic techniques. From my prespective they appear to follow basic kendo strikes and movements pretty closely.

One question I do have, concerns the people involved in the development of Chanbara. The website mentions that several experts (Sensei) were involved in its creation. Does anyone know who they might be?
