I bought this book several years ago and with great regret I am going to have to let it go. I think the book is written by Shimizu Takaji??? But I can't be sure. Anyway i want to list it on eBay but I need a little more information about the book before I do so anyone who can help me with some kind of accurate description would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jimmy Crow

The system name as written at the top line on the cover of the book is simply Shinto Muso Ryu, the first two characters in the following line read Jo Do rather than Jo Jutsu.

The "title" you refer to is

Otofuji, Ichizo, and Matsui, Kenji, 1994. Tenshin Shoden Shintō Musō Ryū Jōjutsu (in Japanese), Sojinsha, Tokyo. 296 pp.

The book you show is

Kaminoda, Tsunemori, and Nakashima, Asakichi, 1976. Jōdō Kyōhan (in Japanese, edited by Shimizu, Takaji), Japan Publications, Tokyo. 352 pp.

Jimmy, the JodoKyohan you are selling is THE book for Shintomusoryu Jo.
FYI, for anyone interested in the book, it is CHOCK full of photos, of Kaminoda-sensei himself doing all the basics, kata, etc.
A must-have for any budo library. And only available directly from the sensei in Japan these days, as far as I know (as in not available in bookstores.)

*Edit*

I would have bought your book Jimmy, but I'm a bit short on cash right now.

The only source I know of, other than Kaminoda-sensei in Japan, is Mugendo Budogu, Jodo Kyohan (http://budogu.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/product321.html), and that will set you back US$240.

As renfield_kuroda mentioned, it is THE BOOK. I have got two copies, one of which is signed by Kaminoda-sensei. Neither are for sale (don't ask).

I saw a couple of volumes very recently in some of the old book stores in Kanda. They are getting rather scarce and the actual sale price of them has increased to roughly JPY 30,000 or JPY 40,000 depending on where you go.

Sorry for the shameless bump and ignorant question, but why is the Jodo Kyohan so expensive? Is it extra thick like a Encyclopedia Britannica or something? I mean sure, it's the book of Shinto Muso-ryu, and I will buy it once I get the cash together and maybe buy a kamidana in it's honor, but still..240 dollars? :)

It's a lot I grant you - but it's an indispensable resource and makes a heck of a collector's item if you can find a copy. To your question, it was rare to begin with, it's out of print, and it is very big with tons of pictures (ie. the most comprehensive reference out there).
