I recently found an Aikikai nearby. It's affiliated with the USAF so nothing's suspicious. Should I start there? Thank you in advance.

Well its a bit difficult to answer your question. This is the sword-art forum, and If you are looking for Aikido then by all means you should try the aikikai-dojo. But Aikido is not really a sword-art such as the various "Yagyu"-ryu or "Katori Shinto-ryu" or iaido(jutsu) traditions.

So if dedicated kenjutsu is what you want then Aikido is prolly not the best option.

Understood. I'll just have to wait until I move out so I can get to the Kendo dojo in Pittsburgh. Again, thank you.
