Is the quality of "restrained elegance" in Japanese pronounced "shibui" or "shibumi"? I hope someone knows what I'm talking about. I haven't gotten anywhere with the online dictionaries.

The word you are looking for is "shibumi"--"shibui" is the adjective form of the same word.

Thanks, Mr. Sheer!
I had seen it in Romanized form both ways in texts where I would imagine the author knew what he was talking about...didn't dawn on me that they were different forms of the same word.
