I'm planning on moving to the LA area very soon and I'm currently looking into joining a dojo once I'm settled there. I read online that there's a Kashima Shinryu dojo that is part of UCLA. I don't know whether it's open to the public rather than just the college or if it's a legitimate school. Their website is http://ksr.bol.ucla.edu/.
I want to join partly to help strengthen my self-dicipline and to give myself a bit of direction outside of my working life. Also, I suppose it goes without saying that I have a large interest in the sword arts as well as the history of the samurai class, etc. My hope is to find a place that has some focus on meditation and the mind as well as the physical side of things. Maybe I'm asking too much here, so please don't be afraid to tell me if I am. Overall, though, I would like this experience to help me grow as a person.
My only previous experience with marshal arts was Judo at about 8 years old for a short time and Karate at an abusive dojo when I was around 11 or 12.
I know these types of questions come up often, so I thank you for reading this and appreciate any advice you have to give.
