Here's a challenge! Does anyone out there know what the Okinawan term "Shinshii" really means? I've been told it means "teacher" ot "Gentleman/Teacher".

Does anyone have a kanji for the term they could send me?

Regards,

Hello Ron,

If the term does mean teacher, or in standard Japanese, "Sensei" the kanji would be ?æ?¶. If there is another set of kanji for this word because it means something entirely different, or Okinawa has its own jukugo for "teacher", I'm afraid I can't help.

Might you mean SHINSHI (deleting one "i" from your post)? If so, this translates as gentleman (?aŽm) though I'm not sure it's particular to Okinawa in any way.
