Given the recent heat in the koryu thread, this Japanese article is interesting because it provides approxite numbers for membership in a variety of gendai and koryu arts. For example, 1.5 million dan grade judoka, about 30,000 battodo-jutsu practitioners, about 1,000 sojutsu practitioners.
With numbers like that, none of these organizations seems likely to become extinct this century. (Even at the bottom end, there are only a couple Indian tribes with numbers larger that, and as far as I know all of them plan on being around another 6,000 years.)
Anyway, continue on and you get some nice pictures of karate in Okinawa, swordsmanship in the movies, Gracie jujutsu, handmade kendo bogu, etc.
