View Full Version : a game of Go

I've asked this in the Go forum, but since this seems to be frequented more often, what is the proper way to request a game of Go in Japanese? I've been unable to find that, and I feel it is a good thing to know. I've heard something about the verb "utsu" or strike, being used instead of "play", but my japanese isn't nearly what I need it to be to make a sentence of that...

Any help is appreciated,

Nick

The word "utsu" is the proper word for making a play in Go. To request a game of someone, the normal term is "onegai shimasu." This term is used in many situations, It basically means "please" and will be understood in the context of the situation. If you want to be more precise, you could also say, "ikkyoku onegai shimasu." One game, please?" Or something like that.

Sorry I didn't notice the date. Will look next time. Anyway, now I see that this is a hot subject.

Nothing wrong with setting records.

If you hadn't found it when you did we might never have gotten the question answered.
