I know the nearest Toyama Ryu Batto Jitsu dojo is up in Costa Mesa with Alvarez Sensei (I need to call you, BTW), but is there anything here in the San Diego I can get into? I'm going through withdrawls right now from not practicing in too long. Anyone know of anything?

Jon,
Several options for the San Diego area:

I study Muso Jikiden Eishin-ryu under Shimabukuro Sensei at the Jikishin-Kai. Our website is http://www.jikishin-kai.com

There is also Nami-ryu under James Williams at the Dojo of the Four Winds in Encinitas:
http://namiryu.com/

And, I think that Peer Halperin still teaches battodo at his dojo in Clairemont:
http://www.tmac-sd.com/

Is there something specific you are looking for?

Cheers,
Erik

In addition to the above, there is also:

http://www.suioryu-bu-rai-an-dojo.org/ (Brian Stokes is a member here at E-Budo).

You can also search for AUSKF-affiliated Kendo Dojo. Many of them offer Iai (ZNKR Seitei as well as, usually, koryu) in addition to Kendo.

HTH.

Brian,
You are right - my bad for overlooking Stokes Sensei. I've trained with him several times. He is knowledgeable, proficient, communicates very well, and has a funny sense of humor - great teacher.

There's also MJER under Minobu Miki in San Diego.
