Hello, I am a member of the Board of Directors for a small Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu Iaido dojo. I am doing research on financial grant programs for non-profit organizations such as ours. If anyone out there knows of any grant programs that specialize in martial arts or Japanese cultural arts preservation, please let me know. Thank You.

If you live in Canada, there may be some federal grants for arts. In the US, these grants are likely state, county, or city. Go to Google and try keyword searches such as: "grant application" [locale] sport

Note that the paperwork involved in grant applications is enormous, and in general if you aren't getting more than $1000 per grant the grant isn't worth it except to pad your resume.

Also, if your school is not a non-profit, then the funds received are taxable. In general, that eats up about 18%-25% of total income.

In general, the trick involves finding a pitch. That you simply want some money to run a dojo won't work; what do you do that is different, and how does this improve the community?
